My fiancée and I would like to get a joint mortgage sometime next year. She has an good/excellent credit rating, whereas I do not; I have a couple of defaults on my credit report plus some late payments. The defaults will hopefully clear in December 2012, but we'd rather not wait that long.

I will be a fully qualified social worker this year, hopefully with a job! Starting wage £25,000. My fiancée will be on £21,000.

We're looking to borrow around 144,000 with a deposit of 16,000.

Questions are, can we get a joint mortgage? If so how?

Depending on what shows on your credit record to the lender you may be alright with a mortgage. You would need to be looking at the high street lenders with the 10%(ish) deposit you have though, instead of adverse lenders. A number of lenders will ignore defaults over 3 years ago as long as they are relatively small and had been paid off. By all means check out my site for more information or contact me.
